We are getting closer--

Grier has had a busy day so far. Early this morning PT came in and got him sitting in bed.. then had him scoot to the edge... then he was put on the floor and walked to me in the chair and sat in the chair for awhile-- After she left Dr. LaQ-- came in to see him and decided tubes should come out-- so the chest tube, NG tube, and catheter is out-- He also had some bandages removed-- It was not pleasant for him while all that was happening but he looks better now-- This all happened before 11 this morning-
He walked a little more this afternoon-- the whole time telling us he can't walk!! Well-- he walked to an ice machine-- and back to the room- He is still pretty quiet-- He said one thing today-- Hey Dad- Can I have some smarties? Jeff asked the nurse and he still needs to wait to eat something-
He still needs some oxygen sometimes-- and tonight the hope is he gets some good sleep--- while continuing to manage pain--
Tomorrow he will need to walk more and more-- and spend more time in a chair- They also want him to go to the playroom--
The other good news of today was the bone marrow test result-- the 4 aspirations were clean for now-- I say that because NB cells can always be hiding-
We are repeatedly told how well he is doing-- All those prayers worked!!
A few steps closer to getting home-
Amy

I am going to post some pictures tonight when I walk back to the Ronald-

Amy,

What an EXCITING day Grier has had...you and Jeff as well!! I am sue it's hard to watch Grier struggle with the motor skills; however, you've both seen it before and know how important it is for him to make these steps, so to speak. To the ice machine...are you kidding me? I will have to agree with the docs and nurses...Grier is doing AMAZINGLY well:)

I look forward to seeing the new pictures tonight and hope to hear news tomorrow of more walking. Also hope that everyone has a decent night of sleep...don't forget your Tylenol pm!

It's so awesome for us here to be able to share in this wonderful news with you...thank you for letting us be a part of Grier's recovery!

Love to you all...
Dina

Hey, when we drove by your house we saw a really cool pumpkin that had "Go Grier Go" carved into it. It looked great glowing there on your front step !
And "Go Grier Go" has really been the perfect slogan for such a strong little guy.

Wonderful news abounds tonight -- Grier getting tubes out, walking, asking for Smarties, going to the playroom tomorrow, clean bone scan -- WOW! For the 3rd day after surgery, I would say Grier is definitely an overachiever!! Isn't it great that he is?? Sounds like he has Dr. LaQ around his little finger like every other smart doctor he has seen.

Love the pics today -- is that his doggie snuggled up to him in the picture? Jeff looks like he is so proud of the little guy in the picture of them. Let us have a threesome picture tomorrow!!

Glad you got a good night's rest in the chairbed. Hope you can repeat that tonight.

Prayers for good and strong recovery days and restful nights are streaming your way. Hope tomorrow is even better than today!

Love to you, Jeff, and Grier,

Betty G

Grier,

I am glad to hear you are doing so well. I wanted you to know that I dropped some Halloween candy by your house earlier today for you to enjoy when you get back home. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Hey Amy and Jeff - thinking so much about you and Grier. Sadye had her knee surgery this morning, so she got a taste of hospital life (and was asking some Grier questions during it all). She is home and we are only looking at a night of pain meds and hopefully great sleep. I am thinking about y'all not getting great sleep and hope for the best tonight.

Sorry you missed a regular Halloween. Sadye was dressed as a car crash victim and was tearing up the sidewalk on Queens Rd West on her crutches. I had to close the house down (and the candy) temporarily to go pick her up when she finally could go no further.

It also too us several hair washings to get the makeup and hairpaint off (Andy was entertain the bulldozer driver in the empty lot next door while he was lining the kids up and going down the line with black spray paint at 5pm.

Hang in there in NYC and hope Grier can see the marathon from a his window. Hugs, kisses and prayers - Love, the Balls

Tell Grier that Mrs. Leary's friend said that even if he couldn't be a lion at Halloween this year, he is proving to be LION-HEARTED !!! He's the bravest boy I have ever heard of!!
