We just got back from the hospital!! We are done with 4 rounds of 3F8-- and today was very different! He went through the entire 30 minutes w/o much pain--(just a request for a hot pack on his tummy)--- then the 20 minute flush started---after 5 minutes-- he was uncomfortable -- then the hives popped out on his arms and face-- then he had lots of pain---! I know I sound excited to see pain but he needs to have some reaction to know it is working-
We are going to the hospital in the morning--- we have a flight in the afternoon and a nice family said they would switch with us so we can make our flight home!! We will be on a tight schedule but if all goes well-- (cleaning, packing, checking out and the 5th round of 3F8 -- etc.) We will be home in Charlotte by 7pm!
Grier is resting right now-- his face is just as swollen as yesterday-- looks like he had his wisdom teeth pulled--
Hopefully, the next update will be from home-- Thanks for checking in!! We are surviving very well in NYC together-
ps-- His ANC came back and he is not nutrapenic-- they said it drops on Wednesdays of treatment and usually rebounds the next day-- So if he wants a turkey sandwich he can have it!!

Sorry about the after-reaction -- the hives and swelling. Glad Grier is resting now and only one more day and you'll be winging your way back home.
HAPPY B'DAY to Hayes!! Give him a hug for me when you see him tomorrow.
Glad you and Grier have gotten along so well this trip -- hate to say it's becoming routine, but you both do handle it like it is. So glad you're at MSKCC where Grier can be in on the cutting edge of treatment!
It's warm and beautiful today after the wonderful rain last night. Warm again -- 90 -- but feels comfortable after the upper 90's. Sleep well tonight after getting the little guy his turkey sandwich! Have a good flight home tomorrow -- I'll pray for a smooth schedule so you'll make the plane!

So glad you get to come home tomorrow and enjoy the weekend and Father's Day with your family. I am so happy the other family switched with you so you can catch your flight and be home at a decent time. I hope the swelling subsides quickly and that you can enjoy some of this cooler weather when Grier wakes up.

I just read your blog and feel so overwhelmed with all you go through - I am so glad you are headed home tomorrow. Now that school is over I hope some of the chaos will subside and you all can enjoy being home. You and Jeff are amazing! Hope you can come home and catch up on your sleep - with Grier getting up in the middle of the night you must be exhausted. Enjoy your flight home and just wanted you to know we have been reading the blog and praying for you all. Looking forward to getting Shields and Grace together over the summer.

Glad to hear he can have that turkey sandwich. Sorry that he had to endure all that pain but as you said we know it is working. You are so amazing and so is Jeff. No complaining just doing what needs to be done. A lucky boy to have such a great family.
I will be anxious to hear that you are on southern ground.
Will be thinking of you tomorrow and praying for a safe return.
Lots of Love,
Mary Ellen
Hi Amy,
Hope all goes smoothly with the last day of treatment. I know you will look forward to getting home and celebrating with Hayes. We will pray that everything drops into place for you to get home in the evening!

Amy, you and Grier have really been on my heart this week. I have found myself stopping many times during the day and praying for you both. I just read all of your blog entries for the week and now realize why God kept nuddging me to pray. It must be very conflicting to know that pain is good, but then to see Grier suffer - so hard! Just think - you and Grier in New York by yourselves with all the yucky stuff you have to handle. I know a year and half age you would have said that you could never have done this. In this crazy world you are now living in you have grown so much. I know you would say, "I am just doing what I have to do." My dear friend, you have more grace and faith than most! I will keep listening to those nudges from God, but wish I could do more. Love, Pat
