Nurse Training and a Birthday Party!

What a busy day for us—we had some fun visitors and we had some folks that are teaching me how to care for Grier when we go home- Those lessons are exhausting—I am ready to go home but it seems a lot easier to push the call button if I need something-

His counts are low—white blood cell count is almost zero—so we are washing hands like crazy to prevent any infection- we did not leave the room because of the mask issue and that is fine—we have a mini-playroom in here—and I do not have to worry so much about germs-

Today was Jeff’s birthday—we had a little party in the room—Grier was very excited to give his Dad crocs like his—Grier has not taken off his crocs in 3 days—he is even sleeping in them! He ate lots of birthday cake and had some ice cream too-

Dr. L is trying to get us home by Friday—I started sending things home so I hope this happens- It will be nice to be back in our house- I can’t wait to see Steel Fab play a game as well as the Bad Bees—I may have to stand far away with Grier but at least I can see the game—

Thanks everyone--

Oh Amy!

What a big step toward getting home! You'll be a fabulous nurse...we may have to get you a uniform on eBay!

I can't wait to get my wristband! Abby & Adam are excited to sport theirs as well. I'm afraid they won't fit Mitch...that should be a fun time! We'll have to work on modifying one for him.

You are in my thoughts and prayers so much every day. You and Jeff are stronger than any of us can ever imagine! Has God ever given you grace and strength to sustain yourselves and most of all sweet Grier! I marvel at his will and can't wait to see him run from you and listen to your giggly laugh as he does!

Seems I'm never going to get close to you anytime soon. Adam came down with a 103.7 fever this afternoon and started steroids last night. Not sure why I'm paying for private school since he's never well enough to go...when he is well, there is no school! Crazy!

As always, and I haven't heard from you, please call me if I can do anything...anything! I'm ready, willing and able. Also, I do know several folks at the outpatient rehab...physical, occupational and speech. I'm certain of one physical rehab friend that would definitely stop by if you wanted a second opinion or possibly some tricks to try. She's fabulous and you'd really like her. She's there Monday through Thursday and has time Mondays at 1pm...she taught Mitch everything he knows! He loves her...so do I!

Can't wait to see you! I miss your laugh.

Lots of love to everyone!

Amy! That sounds like such progress! I think you'd be hard pressed to find a kid who doesn't like cake :)

I'm so glad to hear things are going so well, and I pray that you will be able to make it home by Friday.

Love and God Bless,
Julie Neisler

Happy Birthday, Jeff (a day late) and cheers to Grier for celebrating Dad's b'day in style! It will take several days to clean out Grier's room -- what a fabulous playroom he has had at CMC -- it has entertained all of us who have visited! I'm looking forward to getting my bracelet from Grace. Amy, I'm sure you'll be a great nurse at home just like you've been at CMC. Praying for your escape from CMC soon!!!

Love,
Betty G

We continue to pray for your family every day. In particular, we will pray for continued strength as you go through this next phase of going home. I remember those times as very exciting yet very scary...because like you said it is so much easier to press the nurse call button. It is amazing how you become a nurse over night.

We hope your next update is from home. Blessings to you and Grier and your family,

Cathy, Lee and Elliott Bradley

Amy,
So funny to read about those crocs. (and a belated happy birthday to Jeff!) Remember last June during one of our baseball games when Grier figured out that he could kick his foot up, send his croc flying high and get it stuck up in the tree? (and then the older boys would climb up and retrieve it, only to start the process all over again?!!)

I know you'll all be so glad to get back home. We love you!!!

Hello Christenbury's! I have finally figured out to send you a message. You all have been in our thoughts and prayers everyday. We have been talking about how we miss running into you at all of our favorite restaurants. Hopefully, we can dine together again soon. So glad to hear that you may be going home. I know that will be a relief. No one can ever get good rest at the hospital.

Happy belated birthday to Jeff! I have talked to a few of your high school buddies lately and I'm sure you will hear from them soon.

Love to all of you,

Hello Amy and Jeff,
I finally had a chance to catch up with Anne today, and learned of Grier's story. I was chatting with Anne amidst a hectic day at the office, and boy oh boy did Grier's current situation bring me into focus! To honor your family, I will be spending much less time on the insignigicant matters of life. You may remember my sisters Heidi and Michelle....we are all keeping you in our prayers and thoughts.

I was so pleased to know that Anne was able to be with you at the hospital. What a treasure to share such a special friendship! I can see from this wonderful website that you belong to an icredible community; and that you are all so loved. We will be the West Coast community!!! Go Grier Go!!

Lots of love,
Erin

Amy,

You must have had a very busy day! Looking forward to more good news...hoping to see you out on the soccer fields this weekend!

Thinking of you and Grier so often and praying non-stop for good news and good updates. Hope today was a good one...maybe a bit of progress on the mask?

Can't wait to get my wristband tomorrow at Covenant. Mitch is going to be so delighted to sport his this weekend...youth sized!

As always, please call on me if you need to. I'm good with grocery lists, late night drug store runs, etc.

What a long 19 days. I know you are ready to get home, but you may need to have stricter rules about indoor bubble blowing and squirt guns at home! Please consider me to be your private duty nurse on-call 24/7, although I know you will be great at this all by yourselves. I'll look for contests that require verbatim knowledge of "Cars" and "Happy Feet" since I know all of you would win at this point...we're thinking about you - Cindy

Yahoo! Oh dear Christenburys, I know you are thrilled and crossing fingers to go home tomorrow! There is nothing like the sweet smell of your own home, own sheets and bed, etc...I pray that this will happen for you on Friday!

Remember it was not too long ago that I once wore a white peds uniform....so if you need any home/health/friendly nurse visits, I am here for you!

Karen is sending bracelets to us via Sinclair to Sharon Elementary tomorrow. I'm not sure what Charles jr. was more excited about, learning to TANGO with Sinclair in PE or wearing his new GO GRIER GO bracelets that we will get tomorrow!?

Because of you~ I hug my children tighter, because of you~when Brown woke up from his nap and smeared his poopy all over himself, the walls, his blankets and crib~ I didn't freak out as much :)(I won't tell you Charles' reaction!), bc of you~ I don't yell quite as loudly , bc of you~I let them sneak that extra jellybean, because of you~I sit and play more,
and because of you I cherish every moment. I love you all so much..Hugs and hugs.

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you....

Amy and Jeff,
I am thinking of you today and hoping that this is the day you can go home! Although your suite is quite nice it just isn't home! If that does not happen today just know that Grier is in a great place getting the best care.
We are all excited about the Go Grier Go armbands! What a great idea your friends had! As always we are praying for you all.

Love, Posey and Scott

Amy,

Praying that Grier has a turn around with the fever and cell counts in order for you both to go home! Some sense of normal surroundings will likely help him become motivated to walk again...so much to keep up with at home! We'll keep the faith that this will happen in the very near future for you both.

I went into Black Forest to get a GC today and the lady there noticed my wristband and mentioned Grier immediately. Mitch said to her, "Go Grier Go!" when she did. Her parents live down the street from you. She was so sweet...Grier has quite a fan base at Black Forest and as I can see all around town. My friend Bob at Panera asked me about my wristband as well...word is spreading...prayers are abundant!!

I look forward to your updates as you continue to share your thoughts and happenings with all of us. At a time of such disconnect, I am comforted to know that your humor still prevails. Thinking of Grier, you, Jeff, Hayes & Grace non-stop!

Love and prayers...
