Today started bright and early @ 7:30-- we were trying to beat the 8:00 AM rush at the Pediatric Day Hospital (PDH)...But I am convinced that is impossible-- it is always busy! Grier lucked out today-- they did a CBC using his port instead of a finger stick. It made for a not so stressful start at PDH! We WAITED to find out if they had room in the inn (aka donor room) AND they did-- So, we were told to be there at noon-- We walked back to the Ronald.. did some laundry and then headed back to MSKCC--
Stem cell Harvesting started around 12:45-- we had to sign lots of consent forms.. get blood from the bank and do lots of other little things to get him ready-- The worst part was when they said the lab that measures the stem cells collected closes at 3:30-- so if the collection is not there by that time then it will not be counted until the next morning-- Well-- That is our case- we will not know how much they collected until tomorrow at 12! Chances are we will have to collect tomorrow-- they are planning for "future" use and he will be bigger so they make sure they have enough-- JUST IN CASE we need them someday! The process was fine-- Grier slept through the whole thing!
We have to go to the PDH early again tomorrow morning- They will do a CBC and check to see if he needs platelets- It looks like tomorrow will be a repeat of today!! He still has to get the shots 2x a day-- YUCK!
Grier is in a really good mood-- He is eating like crazy and seems to enjoy himself here- He is in a little routine-- and is pretty entertaining at times-- His new phrase is "whatever"-- not sure what movie or TV show that came from-- His good attitude about this whole thing is what makes us grin and bear it when it comes to this "new" normal!
Thanks to Mike for making the www.gogriergo.com website better-- Take a look at the new "buttons"-- and photos are added in the photo section-
I am sure I owe a lot more thanks to lots of folks for their help this week--- THANKS!!!

He looks quite peaceful and content during the harvest -- glad it went smoothly for you all today. So happy that Grier is cheerful and making the best of a major medical procedure -- what a guy!
Hope you were able to harvest lots today so he doesn't have to do it for 3 more days and you can get home. Maybe Santa could give you three a lift on his sleigh when you're ready to head home -- sleigh time is fast approaching!! I know Grace, Hayes, and Maggie are hoping you'll be home by the weekend. If you need this Santa to pick up anything last minute for you, just give a call!!
Hope you are getting good sleep and going to bed early. Sleep well tonight and hope you have another good day tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you three.
Love and prayers from cold Charlotte to cold NYC!!

I have to agree with Betty,he does look peaceful. I am happy to see he is comfortable. Sorry you have the same tomorrow, but I am glad that this is being done now.
Hopefully you will be back to Charlotte soon where so many people miss you and love you.
Take care of each other and know you are always close in our hearts.

Wow...that's quite an update! Sounds like everything is going as best can be expected...possibly better! How awesome that Grier is in the habit of napping! Amazing that he slept through the "harvest." How nice to have a routine even if it is not one that you care to keep for too long...children always benefit from having routine. Clearly, Grier was comfortable with your day today and hopefully will be the same tomorrow.
I can not believe someone beat you to the punch this morning...I'm certain that won't happen again. Watch out NYC/PDH...Amy's in the house!
Looking forward, as always, to hearing yet more good news about your trip. Knowing this has been a huge benefit to Grier in the long run must just feel good. All of the shots have certainly paid off as of today and I am so delighted to know he is eating SO WELL! I can't say the same for his friend here in Chlt...Grier will soon pass him weight-wise. We're holding at 28# (this is good after holding at 27# for months on end)!
Please call or email if you need anything. Also, let me know if I need to check on that glass mw tray...happy to :)
Thinking of you all non-stop with lots of love...

Glad you got in today! What a bummer about the lab closing before you were ready! Hope you get good news tomorrow. How wonderful that he's eating well. I know that's a relief to you!
We're still praying for you all, and hope you make it home soon!
