We climbed a few hills today!

AHHH! Wednesday-- we made it over lots of hills/mountains today!! First was the awful weather-- pouring down rain + snow on sidewalks and streets = a huge slushy mess that made a 6:45am walk to the hospital not fun!!! And killed my running shoes!! Yes-- I know rain boots would have been the right shoe to wear-- but when you are traveling this way-- you pack light!

We got to the hospital--ready to hurry up and wait for the right folks to take the ethanol out of his line-- (he is in a study... so you read that right!! They lock his port with ethanol in the hopes to prevent line infections instead of heprin) Well-- they did not come in until 8! AHHH! They finally got there and we were ready to get the white medicine-- AND the port was clogged! OK-- Grier was very patient while they worked on the tube hanging out of his chest--- so I was taking his lead-- After many attempts-- the look came from the team-- "we need to change the access needle to see if that was the problem"-- AND this was going to be the first time-- so they decided to use gas for anesthesia -- then they could work on the port and do the bone marrows at the same time-- By 9:15--all of this was underway!! Now -- that is enough for one day but we still had 3F8 to go!

3F8 went as well as it can -- I guess!! We left the hospital and he sleep until 5pm at the RMDH!! And now we are trying to get him to eat---!! He did pack Hershey kisses to eat this morning after the "white medicine" --He only ate 1 and lost that soon after the antibody treatment was over!- We are trying to get him to eat something besides candy! All those narcotics are killing his appetite!

Happy Valentine's Day to Everyone!! Thanks for caring so much about Grier and our family--

ps-- I love seeing all the new people that have signed the blog!!!! Thanks!!

Amy,
I read your blog almost every day to keep up-to-date on how everyone's doing. Hayes will toss tidbits of news my way every so often too. :) He was excited to hear (as was I) that you will be coming home soon, and made sure to tell me about it first thing in the morning.
The kids really enjoyed making the postcards for Grier. Hayes helped some of them decide what kinds of pictures to draw. I know you already know this, but Grier's got an awesome big brother!
Take care and stay warm,
Natalie LaRusch

I am not a new person signing the blog. It is me the same blogger. Wish I could come up with something really great to say. Sorry the day was so rough. I hope Grier gets an appetite soon. Maybe a turkey sandwich will sound good to him soon.
The weather here is cold and nasty. We hope you have a quiet Valentine's day with everyone working on your time schedule.
Sleep well and know you are ALWAYS in our hearts,
Lots of love,
Mary Ellen and family

Amy,
We are still thinking and praying for you and Grier every day. I also check the blog daily to see how things are going. I am sorry that I don’t take the time to write you like I should. My computer was out last week when Ben was out of town…I thought it was because we didn’t renew our expired Norton’s antivirus. Amazingly Ben was able to open the computer up and superglue a chip back into place and it now works again!! (Isn’t that a great story??) Anyway…I know that you will all be glad to get back home.
I just wanted you to know that we are thinking about you and hoping for dryer weather and an easier day for Grier tomorrow.

We love you,
Ben, Troy, SK and Woods

Dear Amy-
On this valentine's day eve, i find myself thinking that if parental love could cure cancer, Grier's wouldn't have lasted a hour! Perhaps that fancy Dylan's Candy Shop should customize some candy hearts that say "Go Grier Go!", or at least "Cancer bites." Seriously though, you, Jeff and Grier continue to give each day all that you've got... and then some... and you guys are an inspiration to all. Love, Alex

Hi Christenbury Family! My name is Mandy and I am a friend of Jen Hatley in Raleigh. I have kept up with y'all from the beginning through the blog. You are all in our thoughts and prayers each day. Grier is an amazing little boy and a trooper. Take care and safe travels-

Amy,
I haven't seen you since our days at Covenant but still feel very "connected" through your blog. My Mom used to call Wednesday "hump day", meaning the rest of the week was for coasting (after you get over the "hump" of the first part of the week ). I think that was her way of prodding me to get with it and get on to school, etc. Here's hoping the rest of your week is lots of "coasting" and easier days for you and Grier!
I think after tomorrow it's supposed to warm up here in Charlotte. Know you will be glad to have some warmer, drier days at home. You're in our thoughts and prayers each day. Take care,
Kasey Woodfin

I am embarrassed to say that I am also a "lurker". :) I have kept up with Grier and your family since last March. I originally heard about the blog and got the link over email from Alan and Heather Cochrane. My family prays for Grier daily. Wishing and praying for a good day for you all tomorrow. Happy Valentines Day!

My dearest Amy,
I have been reading your daily blog for the past eleven months. Peter and I lived in NYC years ago, so in my mind, I see you and Grier as you walk the streets of Manhattan.
I also imagine you as you sat with me for your piano lessons. You always had a beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor, and you had a great senior piano recital with your friends that Spring. I was so proud of you!
What I also saw then in you was your strength of character. This strength is so obvious now as you care for Grier in his treatments. My heart goes out to you and Jeff, your mom, and Grace and Hayes.
Please know that Peter and I pray for all of you daily with hope and faith that Grier will be well.
Love,
Delores Heyd

I heard about your family from Dina back in October and have followed Grier's progress ever since. I am always happy to read that he has had a good day and sad to read when he has not. I teach 3 year olds at a local church preschool in Newark, Delaware so I am quite familiar with children that age and I must say that Grier is an amazing little boy. I have 2 boys of my own and when my 17 year old was in the hospital with a terrible staph infection back in September it was terrible. Then, Dina told me about you the next month and I realized that 3 days in the hospital is nothing compared to what you all have been going through. Please know that lots of people are thinking about you and praying for you every day. I hope all goes well and you get home very soon and you can have some quiet time with your family.

I read your blog almost every day and pray for your family to get through this ordeal. Reading your descriptions of NYC life makes me homesick- slush, noise and all. I hope we see lots of you and Grier at the SteelFab games this spring.

Amy,

I admit it- I'm a lurker! I'm a member of Covenant with two middle schoolers. Even though I haven't posted to the blog, I read your comments every day and say a prayer for all of you. Thanks so much for letting us share the last 11 months with you.

Love,

I admit that I am a lurker, too, but I prefer to think of myself as a member of the Grier Fan Club. We are a Dilworth Little League family and know your faces very well. I read the blog daily and keep all of you are in my prayers each and every day.
I look forward to seeing you on the baseball field soon and would love it if Grier became a Yankee fan after spending so much time in NYC.
Fondly,
Jennie Hawes
