Happy Halloween-- Today was a little hard to be reminded of that over and over-- Grier had big plans to be a lion-- People have been dressed up for days here in NY-- And today I saw a Dad dressed as "Winnie the Pooh"-- they were walking to the hospital and people were actually stopping him to get a photo taken with him on the street! The PICU had people in and out of the room dropping candy in a bag for Grier-- and a few dogs came by dressed up too- Very different than our normal Halloween at home- Grier really did not seem to care about any of it-But he does know today is Halloween--
He is doing OK-- I think the sedation meds started to wear off yesterday and he is dealing with pain as well as anxiety-- we are back to freaking out when anyone in a white coat comes in or nurses come too close-- And he is doing a strange humming noise- But the good news is... he went in an ambulance again to the step down unit at Sloan-- They called it POU-- (pediatric observation unit) AKA "POO"-- It is a quiet room so I hope that helps calm him down -- NY-PRES was like grand central station with the family in the next curtain-- they must have had 20 visitors in and out all night and day- But I will have to say that the staff and hospital is a well-oiled machine-- That was a very pleasant experience-- They kept telling us he is doing very well for the surgery he had-- that is why they moved him so quickly-
I would like to stay here in POU as much as possible since the next move is back to semi-private again-
I did take some pictures of the ride across the street -- will post later when I am back at the ronald-
That is it for now-- Jeff just brought dinner to the POU-- !! I bet he will see some interesting characters on the way back to the Ronald tonight-- NY loves Halloween--!!

Amy,
Thank you for your update and I'm so glad to hear he is doing so well. The POU does sound good, I hope he starts to feel better while there. I prayed today that next Halloween Grier will be out there trick or treating in whatever costume he wants and eating lots of candy (okay, I prayed other things for him too!). Hope you and Jeff are getting some rest. Lots of hugs from Charlotte,
Stacy Sparks
Amy,
Next Halloween it will be fun to see who Grier wants to dress up as, Cody was Luke Skywalker - blue light saber and all!
I am glad to hear that they were able to move Grier to a new unit and I too hope you are able to stay there as long as possible for the privacy, calm and quiet.
Grier is a true champion... just like his parents and siblings!
We are with you in prayer!!!

dinner at the poo...lovely! So glad to see your post, I was just looking for your latest update. Glad you have a little privacy, I hope Grier can relax a little. But you know what? If he wasn't anxious, I would be worried. We went trick or treating tonight, Emma was a witch, Sara a she-devil, I was a vampire! I looked great except my wig was more Loretta Lynn than Elvira...sorry no pictures..you'll just have to imagine! Hope you have a restful night.

Happy Halloween to the NYC Christenburys!
It was Halloween here in Charlotte today too -- you're not that far away from everyone who loves you! The princess (she didn't need to even dress up!) and werewolf looked good when I stopped in this afternoon. They were excited and off to a party on the street and Leah's -- I'll let you guess who went where!!! I imagine Hayes was counting on lots of treats -- he had a pillow case to collect his!
Glad to hear of Grier's move across the street to POU -- the step down is really a step up in recovery! He's crossed the street so many times, it's good to have you tell us which side of the street he's on at the moment. Hope he can stay in POU and private room as long as possible. Glad to hear he is recovering nicely -- Maggie told me he crossed his legs so that is wonderful news.
I know that once the pain is gone from surgery, he will be back to sweet Grier -- it must be hard for him to hurt so much and even harder for you and Jeff to watch him while he is so uncomfortable. Right now he equates nurses, etc with pain, so no wonder he doesn't want them coming in. Keep remembering that after the pain comes the healing and the fun time with nurses.
Hope you and Jeff are both a little better rested today than on Monday. Remember to take care of yourselves for Grier!
Lots of prayers and love still coming your way.
Betty G
Again, thanks so much for the updates. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. We're so glad that Grier is doing so well. He is such a trooper. Love to all of you.

Amy,
Nothing like sharing your every breath with perfect strangers...so glad that you all have been moved to a private room. Hoping you'll get a bit of rest in your new space as Jeff heads back to the Ronald with NYs interesting sideshows.
Went to visit Mrs. Paine tonight, Mitch's request, and they spoke of Grier and said they loved screaming, "Go Grier Go!" We left a special something at your house. I have a picture to show you; however, I have to get someone to download it so I can send it to you...I am truly computer illiterate (hence the eBay items for you to list for me). Mitch was Tigger, Adam was Obi-Won-Kanobi (sp?), and Abby was Harry Potter (scar on the forehead as well). The children had fun and came back with ridiculous amounts of candy. Mitch shared his candy with Mrs. Paine and her daughter Elizabeth giving them each several items from his bag...hooray! We have enough to fill bulk bags and sell back to Target. We'll love to see Grier in his lion costume when he is up to it!
Glad all is well in the POU, what a name! I am very excited to hear from Betty G's blog that Grier crossed his legs...that is AWESOME!
Tons of love and prayers coming north...
Dina
He is amazing and so are both of you. We will pray today for no anxiety and pain free.
I am so sorry that Grier did not get to dress up but I think when you are back in Charlotte we should all have a make up Halloween. They have make up days at school. Why not a make up holiday.
Know you are in our hearts every minute.
Lots of Love

Great to hear the good news about Grier and we are so glad he is making steps in the right direction! We continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers. It was great seeing Hayes, Grace and Maggie last night - missed the three of you!!! They looked very cute in their costumes. We are already looking forward to next Halloween with the entire family in hand. Hope today is a good day --- Lots of hugs and prayers on our end.
