Not much change with Grier-- he still has an NG tube in and they are watching closely to monitor any changes with the output- He still has times when he feels nauseous. He is also very quiet. And we all know that is not like Grier- Originally they thought we would be out of here by now but it looks like that is not going to happen anytime soon-- lots of things need to change- This is very much like last April at CMC for the LONG stay--

On another note-- my weekend was good--I got to show off my new knowledge of the city to some good friends from Charlotte, Rock Hill and Shelby-- We had a great lunch at Serendipity3 and did some walking!! Thanks to Amy in Rock Hill for the lunch-- That was so generous of you! It was fun to be around some familiar faces!

Today was the NY Marathon-- it is almost like a holiday around here--It was fun to see the runners and all the spectators-- Every year there is a team from the hospital that runs and raises money for pediatric cancer research-- It is called "Fred's Team" They bring the kids outside to cheer on the team if they are able-- obviously Grier was not able to watch this year- I took some pictures of their shirts-- I will try to post later- The bad part is you are stuck on one side of the street for a long time!!!

Tomorrow we will reevaluate the plan with Grier and maybe do a CT scan to see if anything is causing this problem or if it is just his digestive system is slowly recovering-

PS-- I opened a package today and it was several pieces of wood flooring!! No name was in it-- and it was mailed from Fairview road-- So, I am assuming there was a mix up and someone needs these floor pieces-- But it did make me laugh--- I will call them tomorrow so UPS can come pick up the box-- :)

Amy-

I am so glad that you got to spend time with your good friends this weekend! I know it helped having some familar faces there. You were in our thoughts and prayers all weekend. Best of Luck with all the decisions you have to make about Grier's care tomorrow. As always, let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help.

Hope you had a good sleep last night!! So glad you got a break from the hospital, semi-private, tubes, beeping machines, and a quiet Grier. Know you enjoyed your visit and nice lunch with friends -- glad they were able to whisk you away for a couple hours of relaxation! Remember that you and Jeff need to take care of yourselves so you'll be strong for Grier.

I was hoping Grier would get to watch the runners from a window, and was so sorry to hear that he was not up to it. I pray that tomorrow will be a better day for him and his recovery will move strongly forward tomorrow. I know that God will lead you in the right direction when making crucial decisions for Grier -- He always has and won't let you down this time.

Back to school for the Charlotte family -- they are real troopers and are holding the fort down very well! Grace stops by most mornings to say "hi" so we talk about what she's doing. Her project was great -- I had never heard of chinstrap penguins. The pictures and written work were so good -- I know you are proud of her!

Hope tonight is restful for you, Jeff, and Grier.
Hope tomorrow brings satisfaction with decisions you and Jeff make.
Hope tomorrow is the best recovery day so far for Grier.

Know that every day in NYC is one day closer to coming home!

Love and prayers as always for you, Jeff, and Grier,

Betty G

Amy -

Here's to better days ahead. All of you are in my prayers daily (at noon daily, to be specific!). Ditto Betty's reminder to take good care of yourself -- easier said than done when you're doing hospital duty with a child, but so important. Trade off often, eat good food (or at least eat!), rest when you can, and always remember that a HUGE ARMY of friends is holding you up in prayer.
Much love,

Amy,

Hello, dear friend! I am so happy that you were able to get out a bit and enjoy time with friends...how nice it must have been to have visitors and real food...cloth napkins? You really need to keep your sanity and I'm so glad you had friends there this weekend to insure this!

Mitch and I said a very special prayer today in church and we feel sure that Grier is going to have a great week in terms of recovery. Mitch says that he is going to say "thank you" to God when Grier is better and wants to know who he will pray for then. He, and we, love Grier and know in our hearts that good will come soon for our friend! Praying for a fantastic week of outstanding recovery and a happy boy...tubes out, more walking and no nausea!

So hopeful that you and Jeff are still trading off nights and are able to get a bit of rest to keep focussed on Grier and tough decisions that need to be addressed. You are both "aces" in my book and are an inspiration for so many as I have noted on the blog and caring bridge that find strength they need from your family. The rest of us are just awe-inspired by your love, commitment, and endurance!

Continued prayers and love to you all...
Dina

Amy - so nice to hear that you had a bit of a respite. There is no better balm than good friends and good food!

We pray daily for Grier here at the Henderson house. And specifically, I pray for him every time I sit down to nurse Leila. It's become a nice ritual and I'm thankful to Hannah B. for setting up the prayer schedule - what a blessing!

I know that you and Jeff will find the strength together to make the right decisions for Grier and for your family. Know that HE is with you every step of the way.

Much love and sunshine from Charlotte.

Quite the New Yorker you've become.Sorry to hear about little man. We will continue to pray for all of you. The floor sample care package sounds so like something I would have done, glad it wasn't me!! Take care and hoping for some peace to that little body. Victoria

Hey Friend...

Hoping G is past nausea today...and that he is feeling better today. I keep reminding myself what a major surgery his sweet body has been through and how shocked I am that he has 'moved' so fast!

Today we had some pumpkin bread with dinner, and trying to get Brown to try it I said 'Mommy and Daddy just love it Brown!'...out of the blue he said "Do Geer like it?" I said YES! I think Grier loves it! "Do Geer Mommy like it?" I said "Uh huh...Miss Amy loves it!"...

SO...as you can see our thoughts are with you constantly~ morning, day, night and at all meals!! We miss you and will be the first to deliver some homemade pumpkin bread when you get home!!

Praying for sleep and sending love,
Hannah

Amy and Jeff.
Needless to say Grier's story has caused me to get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye more than once over the past few weeks. Jeff you probably dont remember me from your Latin days, but know that there are so many folks like me, that you may not know praying for Grier and your family. I was so moved by the support that was shown at Freedom Park, and the number of people that came out to root you guys on, I wish that you could have been there. Hang in there, look forward to catching up one day, and meeting Grier who is going to have quite a story to tell. Our prayers are with you.

Amy,

Hoping to hear that Grier has been better as of late and that things are moving in the right direction once more! I am ever-so-hopeful that Grier is comfortable and happy...as happy as can be expected after the amazing blast his little body has been put through. Our prayers and hearts remain focussed on Grier's recovery and we're looking forward to welcoming you all home to Charlotte. Indeed it would be nice, I know, to get back home for the chemo treatments; however, you know how important it is to move on, whether here or there! You and Jeff are awesome and continue to amaze everyone with your stamina, clear decision-making and focus!

We are thinking of you all with love and prayers...

Jeff and Amy,
Happened to be at Grace's soccer field Saturday as she cleanly kicked a beautiful goal. Everyone was cheering as she humbly, eyes down, walked back to her side of the field. What a delightful child. We rejoice with you and pray for you. Our thoughts constantly drift to you and how the little peanut is doing. Hoyt made a funny drawing for Grier during church on an offering envelope (don't tell anyone!). It will reach him soon.
All our love,
Fielding and Rusty
